Mr. Atavist!
A lean and muscular outing into the Italian desert, Abuse is the 4th outing from Ex. Basically a one-man army of guitarist/ringleader Eugenio Di Giacomantonio, Ex delivers a dry, no-frills platter of psych and desert tinged rock that “Ex himself describes as his ‘Ennio Morricone scores meet Yawning Man.‘”
The sinewy melancholy of Velvet & Latex leads to the road-trip worthy stomp of Capitol Desert just as naturally as the hypnotic snaking of God’s Spirit bleeds into the lamenting threat of Abuse. Ex may come across as methodical, but it’s really more purposeful in it’s stripped down production, playing and even in the sequencing. Rather than going for gloom or menace, Abuse wanders out into the haze with a forlorn weight on it’s shoulders, a whiff of the solitary, brought full circle with closer Wandering Mountain. You can check Abuse, all things Ex, and some eye candy at home-base ExLab.
